Another celebrity sighting in Syracuse, this time it was legendary, Oscar winning, filmmaker Ron Howard.

For the last 60 years Ron Howard has been part of our lives, starting as a child actor,  best known for his role as Opie Taylor in The Andy Griffith Show, eventually evolving into one of the finest filmmakers of our generation. So, what brings Ron Howard to Central New York?

Ron Howard would have been a celebrity for life, just based on the 2 main characters he played in his youth, Opie Taylor on the Andy Griffith Show and Richie Cunningham on Happy Days. He was already one of our favorite people.

The he goes on to Direct such films as Splash, Cocoon, Apollo 13, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Hillbilly Elegy, and A Beautiful Mind to name a few. Ron Howard has 41 Academy Award Nominations, and 9 Academy Award wins.

According to a Facebook post by Michael Cericola, Michael ran into Ron Howard at Salt City Market in Syracuse. The post indicates that Howard is in town for a scripted film project with the Syracuse University film department.

One year ago Metallica's front man James Hetfield was also spotted in Syracuse prior to his concert at the JMA Wireless Dome. Read more about the Metallica encounter in Central New York here.
