In December of 2024, Governor Hochul stated that New York State made "unprecedented revenues" in sales tax and she would like to give some of that money back to help residents with the high cost of living. According to a press release, recipients do not need to apply for this refund and there is nothing to sign up for.

This first-ever New York State Inflation Refund will benefit more than 8 million residents with refund checks, of $150 to $400, arriving between September and December.
