House of Frankenstein Is a Halloween Staple in Upstate NY
Let me tell you guys about traditional scares. While there are so many haunted attractions in the area with scare actors there is but one that uses wax figures to portray scenes of horror from history, literature, and movies. This is The House of Frankenstein - Wax Museum in Lake George, NY. This place has been doing tours since 1974, and it has almost certainly peaked your curiousty while visiting the Adirondacks.
As you walk down Canada Street in Lake George Village you can hear the familiar sound of the organ playing, the phantom of the opera inviting you to come in and explore the sights. From the street to the lobby you're transported into a spooky world that only gets darker once you enter the house itself. You'll see everything from Jack the Ripper, to the creature of the Black Lagoon, Freddy Krueger, and more. It takes you on a true journey of horror history.
Just a heads up, it is dark. That would be the only thing that makes it hard to fully enjoy the experience is that at some points it was so dark and disorienting that I couldn't tell where to go. Especially the portion where the floor is a different material and the walls also change. It all adds to the spooky world that you have ventured into. And no, you are not allowed to use your phones or flashlights while inside.
Is this suitable for kids?
As interested as my two kids were in venturing inside of this attraction they have it very clearly posted that the wax museum is not designed for little kids. It would be a huge mistake to take in someone who might not be able to handle the darkness as well as the images that accompany them inside. They encourage parents to use their best judgement.
The museum has some scenes of violence and you will be in a darkened environment. Parents should use good judgment as to whether the museum is appropriate for young children. No Refunds.
Would you recommend House of Frankenstein?
I absolutely would recommend exploring the haunted hallways of the House of Frankenstein. There is a reason why this wax museum has been around for over 50 years, and hopefully will be for years to come.
Don't miss your opportunity to go there in 2026. This place is only open seasonally and according to their website they will be closing as of November 8, 2026 and won't be back open until April of the following year.
