Canadian Wildfire Smoke Makes Its Way To Capital Region

If you woke up to some yellow looking skies in the Capital Region you aren't alone and here's why you're seeing that. Wildfires in Canada once again have caused the air around New York State to to fill with smoke, some areas feeling it worse than others.

The fires in Canada really ramped up late Tuesday and thick smoke entered the atmosphere. That combined with the current heat and humidity is making it look particularly hazy around most of Upstate New York, not just the Capital Region.

Air Quality Advisory

While the air quality on the Capital Region isn't as bad as some areas, we still have a moderate air quality advisory. Just use caution if you have breathing problems as the day goes on.

In addition to an Air Quality Health Advisory issued for particulate matter for Eastern Lake Ontario, Central New York, and Western New York, all regions may see temporary spikes in smoke-related pollution.

A more severe air quality alert has been issued for Central NY and Western NY currently.

Looking at the path of the wildfire smoke across the northeast it looks like much of the smoke is staying high up in the atmosphere, but obviously that could change. The areas that are most affected could see even more smoke issues for Thursday as the wildfires burn.

If you are sensitive to particulates in the air and the smoke irritates you in anyway please just use caution if you're planning on doing any outdoor activities.
