Over Two Feet of Snow Fell In These New York Towns During 2026 Blizzard

The blizzard of 2026 will certainly go down in the record books for New York as one of the biggest. People continue to dig out around the New York City are and lower Hudson Valley, while we here in the Capital Region got lucky this time around. Our snowfall amounts fell on the lower end of the predictions. I think we all breathed a collective sigh after about noon on Monday.

Former WTEN chief meteorologist Steve Capporizzo shared some interesting statistics from the big storm and many areas close to New York, and in New York, got absolutely pounded.

It looks like several parts of Long Island got the brunt of the storm, with Montauk clocking in at 28.1 inches of snow. New York City also didn't escape the blizzard with a reports 20 inches of snow. LaGuardia airport in NYC reported nearly two feet of snow with 22 inches total.

While that may be a lot of New York our neighbors to the east got it far worse with places in Rhode Island, Connecticut and Massachusetts reporting over three feet of snow.

Most Snow Reported

Fall River, MA came in with the most at 41 inches when all was said and done. New Bedford, MA, a place I once lived, saw 37 inches of snow. While those totals seem like normal blizzard amounts for Upstate New York those coastal New England towns are used to snowfall totals that are much lower. Boston, MA usually reports an average total snowfall amount for the entire season of about 41 inches.

The wind was another factor in this storm. The highest gusts reported for this blizzard came in at Montauk on Long Island a 84 miles per hour. New York City saw gusts at 64 miles per hour.

The blizzard might be over, but the groundhog did predict a longer winter and it is far from over yet. We've still got more chances of snow this week in Upstate New York and we don't yet know what March will bring us. I believe I speak for everyone when I say that we've had enough.
