
Illegal Weapons Seized by Police in Poughkeepsie
A 32-year-old man has been arrested after police discovered illegal weapons in Poughkeepsie, NY.
A suspect is in custody after police say he allegedly made threats with a handgun, according to a recent post on the City of Poughkeepsie PBA Facebook page.
Illegal Weapons Seized in Poughkeepsie, NY
Police said it all started on Saturday, January 3, 2026, at approximately 9:13 a.m., when the City of Poughkeepsie Police Department was called to respond to Cannon Street for a report of a subject menacing others with a handgun.
Upon arrival, officers located the suspect, later identified as 32-year-old Joseph Lombardi, and detained him. Once in custody, officers, along with Detectives from the Neighborhood Recovery Unit, conducted a search that led to the discovery and seizure of an AK-47 rifle and a loaded 9 millimeter semi-automatic handgun with no serial number, which police called a "ghost gun".
Suspect Arrested and Charged
Lombardi was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a weapon, criminal possession of a firearm, both felonies, and menacing, a misdemeanor. Police said that additional charges could be added at a later date. Lombardi was processed and was being held pending arraignment.
Cannon Street a Problem Area in Poughkeepsie, NY?
This isn't the first time Cannon Street in Poughkeepsie has been the scene of illegal activity. Last year the were multiple reports of residents hearing gunshots in the area. Back in May 2025, officers patrolling on foot reported hearing gunshots around the 400 block of Main Street in Poughkeepsie, NY. Multiple police units were dispatched to the area and, upon arrival, located what appeared to be a crime scene on Cannon Street.

Police said that they collected multiple items of evidence at the scene, including spent shell casings.
Back in October, police responded to a large fight in the area of 50 Cannon Street in Poughkeepsie, NY. Upon arrival, they located over 100 people involved in a physical altercation in a parking lot area, and as they attempted to break up the fight and get the crowd of people to leave the area, a uniformed police officer was punched in the face by one of the individuals involved in the fight.
