CARE of DC Reveals Heartbreaking Struggle After Taking In 75 Stray Dogs Since January 2026
Compassionate Animal Rescue Efforts of Dutchess County is sharing the sad reality of what's going on in the rescue world here in the Hudson Valley.
75 Strays Taken in Since January 2026 at Local Animal Rescue
CARE of DC, shared unfortunate details of what life is like at a rescue. In a statement share don social media they write "since January we've taken in 75 stray dogs."
The rescue, which is located in Wappingers Falls, explains why they've been taking in so many strays.
CARE of DC is currently "responsible for nine municipal contracts" adding that the 75 strays is "an incredible number, especially considering three of those contracts were added just within the last couple of months."
So why is CARE of DC taking in so many strays? The rescues is opening up about current changes in the intake system across Dutchess County.

On Facebook, CARE of DC explains just why they believe they're taking in so many stray dogs.
CARE explains:
Most people don't realize that over two years ago, the DCSPCA stopped taking in stray dogs. They canceled all of their municipal contracts with little notice. Unfortunately, there was no plan in place for where those dogs would go.
The rescue adds " Local rescues, including CARE of DC, HVARS and others, stepped up because the dogs had nowhere else to turn."
With one less organization taking in stray dogs, it becomes more difficult for the other rescues. CARE of DC says "The reality is, we're struggling. Our kennels are full of wonderful adult dogs who deserve loving homes."
Every kennel occupied means one less space available for the next stray that needs help.
CARE of DC Waives Adoption Fees For Stray Rescues

In hopes of encouraging more people to adopt and meet the pups, CARE of DC is waving the adoption fees on all the dogs that came in as strays.
They do adoption events at their location at 60 Smith Crossing Road in Wappingers Falls and at different events across the Hudson Valley.
