
Standoff With Armed Man in Dutchess County
An armed man has been taken into custody after hours of negotiations in Dutchess County, New York.
Residents in Amenia, NY, and the Town of North East, NY, were on high alert on Monday, June 9th, after the Dutchess County Sheriff’s Office informed folks that they were operating in the area.
At the time, they didn't provide many details except to say that the deputies, along with their Unmanned Aircraft Systems (drones), were working in the area. They stated that there was no threat to public safety at this time and that more information would be released soon.
Armed Subject Fires Shot in Town of North East, New York
According to the Dutchess County Sheriff's Office (DCSO), deputies responded to a report of an armed subject in the Town of North East on Monday, June 9th at approximately 12:40 p.m.
Upon arrival, deputies were unable to locate the subject but were informed that he was in a wooded area near the State Route 199/State Route 44 intersection in North East. Deputies were told that the man was armed and "had allegedly fired a shot into the air as a warning to those looking for him."

In an effort to locate and safely locate and place the man into custody, additional personnel from multiple departments responded to the area to assist in setting up a perimeter to contain the situation.

After several hours of negotiations with first responders, the man, later identified as 32-year-old Garrett O’Holloran, was taken into custody without further incident. The DCSO recovered two firearms at the scene as O’Holloran was being taken into custody.
Soon after, O’Holloran was transported to Mid-Hudson Regional Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY, for treatment, and remains there at this time, according to the DCSO.
DSCO didn't reveal what led to the standoff but did say that the investigation is ongoing and that criminal charges are possible.
