New York State Police Conduct Speed Week 2

At the end of July 2026 New York Governor Kathy Hochul announced the dates for the Speed Week 2 Enforcement.

During the first Speed Week enforcement, which ran from Monday, June 8, through Sunday, June 14, thousands of tickets were written for speeding infractions.

Hudson Valley Driver Ticketed After Going Well Over Taconic Speed Limit

The Speed Enforcement Campaign is a "high-visibility statewide enforcement effort" meant to "curb speeding and prevent avoidable crashes caused by unsafe speed."

Governor Hochul said in a statement "“These enforcement campaigns are crucial, as speeding continues to be a leading cause of fatal crashes each year in New York State."

The Governor goes on to add:

As always, we have zero tolerance for those who endanger others by driving recklessly, so I urge everyone to do their part to keep our roadways as safe as possible by following the speed limits, avoiding distractions and never driving while impaired.”

One local driver did not get the memo. A driver was ticketed during Speed Week 2 going 110mph in a 55mph zone on the Taconic.

The New York State Police write "During Speed Week enforcement in Troop K, a Trooper stopped a vehicle traveling 110 mph on the Taconic State Parkway, where the posted speed limit is 55 mph."

Another Driver Ticketed For Going Well Over Taconic Speed Limit

A few hours after the ticket above was handed out, Troopers in Troop K were pulling someone over again for going even faster.

The New York State Police explain:

During Speed Week enforcement in Columbia County, a Trooper assigned to Troop K stopped a vehicle traveling 117 mph on the Taconic State Parkway—more than twice the posted 55 mph speed limit.

In the social media post the New York State Police stress that going at those speeds "there is little room for error" stating "A split-second decision can have devastating consequences for the driver and everyone else sharing the road."
