When Will Snow Fall For The First Time This Season?

We just started finally enjoying the true fall weather here in the Hudson Valley.

We're talking perfect 65 degree days with a slight breeze and crisp in the air. It's been perfect, and dry too! However, there's that sinking feeling that winter is sneaking up on us.

And, technically...it is.

The Old Farmer Almanac has predicted that the first measurable snowfall in New York for the 2026-2027 winter season could start falling soon.

In higher elevations across New York State first flakes can start flying between late October and early in November.

Places like New York City and Long Island will see snowflakes a little later, at least that's according to the Old Farmer Almanac predictions.

Are the predictions off this year? Flakes might have been flying already in Upstate, New York.

"Nicest" Weather Forecast of The Year for The HV?

Thankfully, there's no snow in the forecast for us here in the Hudson Valley just yet.

But, with that being said, Meteorologist Ben Noll says we should enjoy this fall weather while we still can. Noll calls the week of October 5th, 2026 "The nicest forecast of the year."

Noll writes:

My advice? Enjoy the dry weather and sunshine while it’s around. At some point in the months ahead, probably during November, a shift toward stormier conditions is expected.

Stormier conditions are on the way. Lets hope it's not too snowy.
