MPD's Detective Division began its investigation, which revealed that the victim was a new employee at the barbershop and was working inside when a male suspect walked into the barbershop through the front door and began to discharge several rounds from a black handgun at the victim.

Following the shooting, the suspect, who was wearing all black and a camouflaged balaclava-style mask, fled the barbershop on foot, eastbound on West Main Street.
