Baby Formula Sold in New York Recalled Over Possible Toxin Contamination
NYS Department of Health Warns Of Recalled Baby Formula
In a press release shared to social media the New York Health Department is warning parents of a baby formula recall.
The recall is in regard to specific batches of the a2 Platinum Premium USA label infant formula 0-12 months.
According to the NYS Department of Health a voluntary recall was made back on May 2nd, 2026, from the a2 Milk Company for 3 specific batches of the formula mentioned above.
They explain that the recall has been made "due to the presence of cereulide toxin." You may be asking yourself "what is cereulide?" The FDA breaks it down for us, writing:
Cereulide is a heat-stable toxin produced by some strains of the bacterium Bacillus cereus. Illness occurs through the consumption of food contaminated with the toxin and preparing formula with hot water does not eliminate it.
The FDA goes on to say that if cereulide is ingested through the formula, symptoms will develop within 30 minutes to 6 hours after ingestion.
Symptoms include "gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea and vomiting that typically self resolve within 24 hours." They add that infants are at a "greater risk due to their developing immune system" which can cause complications like dehydration.
Thankfully, no confirmed incidents of illness or harm have been reported, but with that being said affected batches "must not be used."
What Baby Formula Is Affected By the May 2026 Recall?
In the 3 batches are 63,078 units of formula and "an estimated 16,428 units" sold.
The formula was "distributed nationally" through the a2MC company website, as well as Amazon and Meijer "as part of Operation Fly Formula."
The Food and Drug Administration website has a detailed overview of which recalled formula to be on the lookout for.
According to their statement the recall affects a2 Platinium Premium infant formula 0-12 months Milk-based powder with Iron.
The packaging the recalled product came in is the 31.7 oz tin cans. The Batch Numbers and Use By Dates are as follows:
2210269454 - 7/15/2026
2210324609 - 1/21/2027
2210321712 - 1/15/2027
The FDA explains that the Batch Numbers and Use By Dates can be found on the bottom of the tin.
Did You Purchase The Recalled Baby Formula?
If you believe you have purchased formula affected by the recall, the FDA recommends "to discontinue use of the product and dispose of it immediately."
Consumers can also return it to the place of purchase for a refund.
However, if your infant is experiencing symptoms they state:
