Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar has announced another round of closures, including a restaurant in Upstate New York.

Over the last few years, Applebee's restaurants, owned by Dine Brands, have closed select restaurants across the country as the company continues its long-term plans eliminate underperforming restaurants and focus on its higher-performing locations. This year, Applebee's has already closed restaurants in multiple states, including Indiana, Missouri, and New York, and it appears more could be closing soon, according to multiple reports.

When Will Applebee's Close?

The Glenville Applebee's will officially close for good on Sunday, April 12th, 2026. Thankfully, all of the employees at the Glenville location were offered positions at the other Applebee's restaurants in the area. There are currently more than 1,500 Applebee’s locations worldwide, including 10+ restaurants across the region in Kingston, Brewster, Middletown, Newburgh, and Poughkeepsie, NY.

This isn't the first time our region has lost an "Eatin' Good in the Neighborhood" restaurant. Back in 2023, the Glenmont, NY restaurant closed, and in 2024, the Applebee's in Hudson, NY was shuttered.

Not All Bad News at Applebee's

During a recent earnings call, Applebee's President John Peyton said that they are exploring the possibility of opening new locations in 2026, according to the Hill website.

Peyton didn't say where they would be located but did say, “This year, we’re planning on opening more restaurants than we have in prior years. Our strategy is working, our teams are executing, and we’re firmly focused on expanding our footprint and serving more guests across the country."
