Yet Again, This Stretch Of Rt. 9 Stuns…For Now
I never thought i'd actually hit the age where I get excited about trees blooming, grass being super green, or watching birds from the window, but here we are.
Last year, right around this time, I was driving from my home in Wappingers, to work at the radio station in Poughkeepsie, and as I was stopped at a light right near the Poughkeepsie Plaza, I looked out the window and began to admire the beauty of that stretch of a typically insanely busy road.

Spring Blooms in the Hudson Valley
Well, since last year's 'magical' ride on Route 9 brought so much happiness to my otherwise not very exciting life, i've been anxiously awaiting this year's bloom, and guess what - it's happening!
Driving to work this week, I noticed some of the trees on the same stretch of 9, near the Poughkeepsie Plaza and Locust Grove are starting to bloom, and damn, if it isn't the nicest view to sit and look at in traffic.

I Don't Understand Plants and Trees
This I have talked about on the radio for several years, especially after becoming a homeowner and discovering that I have the opposite of a green thumb; why is the 'bloom life' on many of these flowers and trees so short?
My neighbors have a gorgeous Crabapple tree right in front of our houses that blooms and it absolutely stunning for like two to three days max, all the petals fall to the ground, and then it just drops these little apples that get all over the place for the rest of the year.
There's another neighbor down the street who has a really pretty flower bed near her house, and when these particular flowers bloom (don't ask me what kind), they last for a few days and then they're gone.
As for me, fake plants for the win, inside AND out, except for the forsythias that line the side of the house, those are zero effort and look good from now through fall....and i've managed to keep those babies looking good for the eight years i've been in the house, whew.
