Work Planned to Improve Traffic Flow at JC Wegmans Entrance

A redesigned entrance to the Wegmans supermarket in Johnson City is expected to alleviate some traffic issues that occur during peak shopping times.

Increased congestion around the intersection of Harry L. Drive and Reynolds Road is expected in the future as new businesses open at the Oakdale Commons.

Mayor Martin Meaney said village officials have been working with Wegmans representatives on a plan that could improve the flow of traffic at the store's main entrance.

Congestion develops occasionally as vehicles heading for the supermarket travel west on Harry L. Drive from the Route 17 and Route 201 interchange.

Meaney told WNBF News that "it seems that the one left-turn lane to Wegmans backs up" causing gridlock at the nearby intersection.

The mayor said the hope is the addition of a second left-turn lane into the business will help reduce traffic congestion.

Meaney indicated the redesigned entrance to Wegmans could be operational before the end of summer.

New traffic patterns also are planned for vehicles entering the former Oakdale Mall. A previous Harry L. Drive entrance to the site had been closed. An entrance to the west remains closed while repaving operations continue.
