Binghamton Man Receives 20 Years to Life for Horrific Crime Against a Child

In an announcement by Broome County District Attorney F. Paul Battisti, it was revealed that 41-year-old Willis Bickham of Binghamton has been sentenced to 20 years to life in New York State Prison for the heinous crime of Rape in the First Degree with a victim under the age of 13.

The sentencing of Bickham took place in Broome County Court and was presided over by the Honorable Joseph F. Cawley.

The case stemmed from an incident that occurred on June 24, 2023, when Bickham, then 40 years old, took a 12-year-old child into an apartment on 2 Green Street in Binghamton and engaged in sexual intercourse with her. The trial, which concluded on July 24, 2024, saw the presentation of crucial forensic evidence by experts including Katherine Motler and Stephanie Goldman from the New York State Police Lab, as well as Katherine Loveland, the Sexual Assault Nurse Examiner from Guthrie Hospital. Their testimony played a pivotal role in securing Bickham's conviction for this despicable act.

District Attorney Battisti expressed his gratitude for the dedication and support provided by key individuals involved in the case. Danielle Nuzzo, Director of Legal Advocacy at the Crime Victims Assistance Center, played a significant role in advocating for the victim and ensuring a positive outcome. The relentless efforts of the Binghamton Police Department were also acknowledged for their thorough investigation, which contributed to the successful prosecution of Bickham.

Battisti emphasized the gravity of Bickham's crimes against an innocent child and underscored the need to ensure justice for the victim while safeguarding the community from further harm.
