No Biggie! Washington Ave. Project Cancels Breakfast at Wendy’s
The $11 million street improvement project in Endicott's main business district has been moving forward from north to south along Washington Avenue.
Businesses along The Avenue have been doing their best to cope with the disruptions and detours caused by the extensive rehabilitation job that began last April.
Underground utility work, including the installation of water and gas lines, has been done on a block-by-block basis. That's allowed most of the street to remain open to vehicular traffic at any given time.
Major infrastructure work now is underway on the block between East Main Street and Broad Street near Union-Endicott High School.
Access to the post office, St. Ambrose Church and the Wendy's restaurant has been affected while crews have been installing utility lines.
Wendy's, which normally opens at 6:30 a.m., was closed for breakfast on Monday morning. The restaurant started operations about five hours later than usual. It was closed for the morning while the new water line was being hooked up. Wendy's is expected to be open for its usual hours on Tuesday.
The two blocks of The Avenue between North and Broad streets are open to vehicular traffic. Pedestrian traffic is permitted along Washington Avenue while the project is underway.
The massive makeover job is scheduled to be completed by mid-November.
