Construction Starts on 700-Bed Vestal Off-Campus Housing Project
Work is underway on a massive cottage-style housing project near the Binghamton University campus in Vestal.
Crews started site preparation operations for the residential development on the 43-acre site between Bunn Hill Road and Jensen Road.
Landmark Properties of Athens, Georgia has been planning the project for six years. It will total more than 314,000 square feet and include 161 units.
Development of the project was delayed by legal challenges brought by a group of residents who wanted to maintain the rural character of that section of Vestal.
Their fight ended last March when a state appeals court ruled against the effort to block the project.
In a news release, Wes Rogers, Landmark Properties president, acknowledged the company had "experienced the significant barriers" to enter the market with the project.
Rogers praised the persistence of the Landmark "team for making this happen!"
The project will include a 12,000-square-foot clubhouse and a heated outdoor pool. There also will be outdoor fire pits, a fitness center and other recreational amenities. The development will have 554 parking spaces.
According to the company, the Retreat at Bunn Hill will have 15 different floor plans consisting of two- to five-bedroom cottages.
The project is scheduled to be completed in the summer of 2026.
