People who need coffee-on-the-go will have a new option when a drive-thru operation opens in Vestal this summer.

A 7 Brew coffee shop is to be built on a Plaza Drive site just south of the Vestal Parkway.

The location is near the soon-to-open Greenway, a paved link between Binghamton University's main campus and the city's South Side.

The 7 Brew shop is the first of several dozen units planned by a business called Brew Family Development LLC, which acquired the property from Elmira Savings Bank in December for $625,000.

Some brush and trees are being cleared at the site in preparation for groundbreaking that's scheduled for this week.

Keli Oven of the town of Fenton said she is one of four partners in the business. She said 7 Brew, which is based in Arkansas, has a special culture that is focused on customer service.

The Vestal shop - which will be located across the street from University Plaza - will have dual drive-thru lanes to provide faster service.

Although most of the business will be drive-up, Oven said there will be a walk-up window for people who may be using the Greenway.

The shop's official opening is scheduled for August 28. It is expected to open at 5:30 a.m. every day. The planned closing time will be 10 p.m., although the business will be open an hour longer on Fridays and Saturdays. Hiring is to start in about two weeks.

Oven said the partners may open other 7 Brew shops along the Vestal Parkway corridor. They are also planning to open several dozen units in Pennsylvania.

7 Brew now has about 90 drive-thru coffee shops in 25 states. The Vestal location will be the first in the northeastern United States. 7 Brew's menu includes a wide variety of coffee beverages, as well as teas, smoothies, shakes and energy drinks.
