The long-awaited Taco Bell restaurant on Front Street just north of Binghamton will start serving customers soon.

The fast-growing chain has been planning to open a location at the site of a former town of Chenango convenience store.

An abandoned Speedway gas station at 1243 Upper Front Street was demolished last April. The site is across the street from the Northgate Plaza and a Denny's restaurant.

Haza Bell of Northeast LLC will operate the new eatery. Area coach Jen Robinson said staffing has been completed with more than 40 people hired to work at the restaurant.

The new Taco Bell on Front Street initially is scheduled to open each day at 9 a.m. It will close at 2 a.m. most days, although it will be open an hour longer on Saturday and Sunday mornings.

Robinson said the restaurant eventually may open at 7 a.m. to offer a breakfast menu which already is available at other Broome County Taco Bell locations.

Robinson told WNBF News the new Taco Bell is scheduled to open August 27.

Meanwhile, construction is continuing on Tioga County's first Taco Bell restaurant. That location is expected to be operational by late September or early October.
