New Restaurant to Open at South City Pub Site in Binghamton
Binghamton's South City Pub and Grill has closed but another establishment will soon open at the site.
The restaurant and bar at 1200 Vestal Avenue discontinued operations a few days ago.
A Broome County woman - Mikailah Stinson - is preparing to launch a new restaurant. She said she's been working since January to acquire the business. The ownership deal closed on Monday.
Stinson has worked at The Relief Pitcher on Conklin Avenue for several years. She said she's "always wanted to be an owner" of a similar business.
The new place will be called Southside Cal's. The name is a shortened version of Callahan, a cherished family name.
Stinson said the restaurant will open at 11 a.m. seven days a week. It will be open until 10 p.m. Sunday through Wednesday and until 11 p.m. Thursday through Saturday. She's hoping to open Southside Cal's early next week.
The initial menu will be small. It will feature smash burgers, wings and fries. It also will include the popular chicken spiedie cheesesteak, which has been a fixture at the location in its various incarnations.
The spot has been home to several restaurants and bars over the years, including South City Publick House, South Side Yanni's, the Tazmanian Embassy (The Taz), Club 1200 and The Stable.
