Opening Soon: Owego Taco Bell Construction Nears Completion
The first Taco Bell restaurant in Tioga County is expected to start operations in a few weeks.
An abandoned bank in the town of Owego is being transformed into a Taco Bell eatery.
Hospitality Restaurant Group of Syracuse will operate the new restaurant, which will be located in the former Chemung Canal Trust building on Route 17C.
The site has been idle since the bank closed in November 2020.
The Taco Bell restaurant will be across the street from two other quick-serve establishments - Wendy's and Arby's.
Demolition and renovation work at the old bank building started last April. Most of the necessary construction has been finished.
Crews have been busy with electrical work in recent days. Paving of the parking lot is expected to be completed soon.
The restaurant originally was expected to open by the end of summer. Workers at the site now say they believe operations will start sometime in October.
A representative of Hospitality Restaurant Group was not available to discuss the official opening date.
