New York State DEC Interactive Map Highlights Accessible Features
New York State is a great place to enjoy outdoor activities, including all that is offered on state lands. The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has invested much in outdoor recreation, including over $5 Million in state accessibility projects to expand recreational opportunities for all ages and abilities.
The public has access to many hands-on exhibits, and trails, including multi-use trails, wildlife viewing platforms, green infrastructure features, boat launches, walkways, boathouses, paddling launch systems, outdoor pavilions, picnic areas, fishing platforms, recreation areas, and so much more.

And many are wheelchair accessible. The NYS DEC has a new interactive map that shows what areas on state land and parks are wheelchair accessible in addition to locations of boat launches, fishing access sites, backcountry features, hiking trails, DEC lands, developed campgrounds, and features.

According to the NYS DEC, the Accessible Recreation Destinations Map shows 266 destinations across the state with wheelchair-accessible outdoor recreation opportunities, including:
- 84 locations with accessible boating facilities
- 58 locations with accessible fishing facilities
- 44 locations with accessible camping facilities
- 50 locations with accessible hiking trails
- 10 locations with an accessible beach access route
- 47 locations with accessible picnic facilities
