Judge Rules New York Should Foot Cuomo Legal Bills in Harassment Suit

A Manhattan Supreme Court Judge has ruled that New York should foot the legal bills for former Governor Andrew Cuomo in an ongoing sexual harassment lawsuit.

According to the Associated Press, Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Shlomo Hagler ruled that the state of New York should fund former New York Governor Andrew Cuomo's legal defense bills in an ongoing lawsuit accusing him of sexual harassment.

The lawsuit, filed by an unnamed New York State Trooper, alleges that Cuomo sexually harassed her while she was part of his security detail by subjecting her to sexual remarks and occasionally touching her in an inappropriate manner like running his hands or fingers across her stomach and back.

Cuomo filed a lawsuit against New York Attorney General Letitia James for denying him public assistance for his defense, arguing that the allegations stem from the time when he was acting in his official capacity as New York State's Governor.

Rich Azzopardi, a spokesman for Cuomo, stated "From the very beginning, every action Tish James has taken concerning Governor Cuomo has amounted to a politicized abuse of power and every time one of them goes before a court of law, it unravels."

A spokesperson for Attorney General James stated in a prepared release "while we disagree with the judge's decision, we respect it. We are reviewing the decision and any potential next steps."

Cuomo resigned as Governor in 2021 when numerous allegations of sexual harassment surfaced. He has denied all of the allegations against him since then.
