$6.2M Bridge Repair Work Underway on I-88 in Town of Dickinson

A major project to replace worn concrete sections of the connector between Interstates 81 and 88 is underway.

The $6.2 million job on the bridge between the town of Chenango and Port Dickinson has closed one lane in both directions of the span.

The connector which carries interstate traffic over the Chenango River opened in November 1988. It cost $62 million to construct.

The contractor for the repair project is Slate Hill Constructors of Onondaga County. The work is scheduled to be completed in November 2024.

Traffic has been moving through the work zone with few reported problems since the work began.

One significant problem occurred a couple of weeks ago when a truck with a wide load was unable to pass through the construction area because of narrowed lanes.

The driver needed police assistance to back the rig down the connector ramp back onto Interstate 81. Traffic was reportedly tied up for about an hour.
