On Thursday, December 11, 2025, several local leaders were at the latest official ribbon-cutting ceremony.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony was for the new indoor ice skating rink at the Grippen Community Park in Endicott.

Assemblywoman Donna Lupardo joined Broome County Executive Jason Garnar and Broome County Parks Director Brenda Gowe, and others who were on hand to celebrate the opening of the ice rink.

Earlier this year, County Executive Jason Garnar said the park will now be known as Grippen Community Park. He said the "rebranding" is being done to reflect all of the work that's been done "to make it a park that the whole community can enjoy."

Garnar told WNBF News, "We've done a lot of different things" with the park, which previously had seen rather limited use in recent years.

During the ceremony, it was announced that skating and skate rentals are free in December 2025 at Grippen Community Park. Skating will cost $5 per session, and skate rental per session will be $5 beginning in January 2026.

Anyone who skates at the park's ice rink will be required to sign a waiver before going on the ice. For skaters under the age of 18, a parent or guardian must sign their waiver. Supervision at all times by an adult is mandatory for skaters under the age of 12.

There is no cost for assist bars. Between skating sessions, the ice surface will be cleaned as needed, according to the announcement release.  For those looking for food and/or drinks, during all skating hours, concessions will be open.
