Another Major House Fire in Endicott Neighborhood
For the second time in less than 24 hours, several fire departments were called out to battle a house fire in an Endicott neighborhood.
The latest multi-alarm blaze was reported shortly before 6 a.m. Wednesday. The fire was in a single-family home at 5 Parsons Avenue, just south of North Street.
An initial report indicated fire was coming from a downstairs room. The first Endicott police officer on the scene confirmed there was a working fire in the first floor of the house.
A second alarm was issued shortly after the first firefighters were dispatched.
The scene was just steps away from a Tuesday afternoon fire that tore through a large apartment house at 106 Parsons Avenue.
Endicott fire chief Joseph Griswold said those who were inside the home managed to get out safely.
The Union Volunteer Emergency Squad sent ambulances to stand by at the scene although there were no immediate reports of injuries.
The Red Cross was called to assist residents who were forced from the home because of the fire.
New York State Electric and Gas crews shut off utilities to the house. A BC Transit bus was sent to the scene for use as a warming station.
Parsons Avenue was closed between North Street and Florence Street due to firefighting operations. Traffic also was detoured off a two-block section of North Street.
