Endicott Welcomes Its New Official Holiday Tree
The village of Endicott's beloved holiday tree on East Main Street has been replaced with a new mature evergreen.
Endicott officials recently announced it was time to part with the "special tree that's been long rooted in the Village's history."
The tree that had been provided by the Endicott Rotary Club 43 years ago had reached the end of its life. The tree was donated by the organization to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the village.
Endicott municipal workers transported the replacement tree to its new home across from the village municipal building at East Main Street and Jefferson Avenue on Friday.
The crew carefully moved the tall evergreen into place as Mayor Nicholas Burlingame and a small group of onlookers watched the operation.
A lighting ceremony for the new tree will be held early next month. The mayor said that event may take place after the Endicott holiday parade, which is scheduled for December 7. It's possible the initial lighting of the tree could occur a few days before the parade.
