Dunkin’ Shop Planned at Former Town of Union McDonald’s Site
A property in the town of Union that once was home to the Golden Arches will soon be busy again when a Dunkin' restaurant opens at the site.
The new doughnut and coffee shop is being constructed at 724 Main Street in Westover. The location is just east of the West Family YMCA.
Site preparation work is underway on the property near the intersection of Main Street and Oakdale Road.
The property was acquired by BAPA Network of Horseheads three years ago for $300,000.
The town of Union planning board first approved the project in August 2020. But work on the restaurant was delayed, so a revised plan was resubmitted to the board this year. It was approved in June.
A McDonald's restaurant had operated at the Westover site from 1970 to 1997.
A 1,700-square-foot building is being constructed for the new Dunkin' shop. That's slightly smaller than what was envisioned in the original plans for the business.
BAPA Network and its affiliates operate Dunkin' restaurants and Baskin-Robbins ice cream shops in New York, Pennsylvania and three other states.
BAPA CEO Manish Patel could not be reached for comment on the new Westover operation.
Town of Union supervisor Robert Mack said he didn't know when the Dunkin' restaurant is scheduled to open but he said he expects it will be before the end of the year.
