“Huge Dirt Pile” Sparks Questions in Town of Union
A massive mound of dirt near the former IBM Country Club property near Johnson City has caught the eye of some motorists.
Robinson Hill Road residents say dozens of trucks a day drive to the town of Union site and dump material a short distance from nearby homes.
One person who passes by the site asked WNBF News about the "huge dirt pile." The resident observed "the dump trucks bringing the dirt and bulldozers leveling it."

Others have noted the big mound is visible from the old country club site and the neighboring Polar Shot driving range on Watson Boulevard.
The dirt is being dumped on property owned by 98 Acres LLC.

Town of Union supervisor Robert Mack said he doesn't know what might be planned for the site in the future. But he said the property owners have received fill permits from the town.
He said the initial permit was approved in October 2024 but when the size of the mound continued to grow, the town advised the owners another fill permit would be required.
Mack said a second permit was issued last August.

Several dump trucks operated by JFM Real Estate were seen hauling dirt to the site Tuesday afternoon.
A man who lives nearby said his wife counted 37 dump trucks traveling to the property on a recent day.
A message left with an official of JFM Real Estate in Vestal was not immediately returned.
