Delta Air Lines Will Provide Service Out of Binghamton

Delta Air Lines plans to continue providing service at the Greater Binghamton Airport.

Delta informed Broome County officials last week that its daily service from the airport to Detroit would be dropped after February 14.

The move would have left the recently-renovated airport in the town of Maine without any scheduled air service.

Governor Kathy Hochul on Friday announced Delta "has identified available aircraft in order to resume daily service" at the airport this spring.

Hochul did not provide specific information on what Delta plans to provide for the Binghamton market.

In a statement released by her office, the governor said "preserving this flight is a win for the Southern Tier." She said it will ensure "that this newly modernized airport serves travelers for years to come."

Hochul said regularly-scheduled air service is a "lifeline for workers and businesses in the Binghamton area."

Broome County aviation commissioner Mark Heefner could not be reached immediately to discuss details of the Delta move.

County Executive Jason Garnar issued a statement thanking the governor "for stepping up and getting Delta Air Lines service restored" at the airport.

In the statement, he said the action represents "a big win for our neighbors, our businesses, and everyone who depends on reliable air travel."

Garnar said "we're especially thankful to Delta for believing in our region and bring this important service back to Broome County. He said county officials will "keep working hard every single day to bring even more air service home."
