Adam Weitsman Sells Former Upstate New York College Campus
In May of 2023, WNBF reported that businessman Adam Weitsman, owner of Upstate Shredding - Weitsman Recycling was seeking a buyer for Davis College in Johnson City with an asking price of $6 million.
Weitsman purchased the property on Riverside Drive in Johnson City for $3.7 million in December 2019 along with two residential buildings which he later sold.
Local media outlets are now reporting that the former Davis College campus has been sold by Weitsman for $4.5 million to the Birchwood Management Group.
According to LinkedIn, the Birchwood Management Group is based downstate in Hopewell Junction, New York. According to local media reports, the goal of Birchwood Management Group is to turn the former Davis College campus into an Artificial Intelligence University.
Other schools known for their AI programs include the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Stanford University, Carnegie Mellon University, the University of Oxford, and the University of Cambridge.
John A. Davis founded Davis College as Practical Bible Training School in 1900, according to the History of Davis College. In 1993, Practical Bible Training School became Practical Bible College, and in 2004 it became Davis College. Davis College is now located at the Word of Life Bible Institute in Pottersville, New York.
Adam Weitzman's intention was originally to develop a basketball academy on the former Davis College Campus along with a eSports Academy, but the Covid-19 Pandemic put a crimp in those plans.
A United States Post Office remains active on the former David College Campus with hours in operation Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m., and on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 Noon.
