Broome County Man Drove Truck Over Car with Passengers Inside
A driver faces several felony charges after a pickup truck slammed into an occupied car and then drove over the vehicle in Broome County.
Authorities said 35-year-old Travis Ross of Whitney Point was arrested after the incident early Tuesday morning.
According to the Broome County Sheriff's Office, deputies were sent to Prospect Street in the village of Whitney Point around 1:30 a.m. to investigate a crash involving two vehicles.
When they arrived at the scene, deputies discovered Ross in the driver's seat of a 1998 GMC pickup truck that was parked on top of a Mitsubishi Eclipse.
Investigators determined Ross drove his truck into the car before driving over and on top of the other vehicle while two people were inside.
After the pickup truck came to a stop on top of the Eclipse, the two people who were inside the car ran away from the area.
One of them hid nearby and the other ran to the nearby Byrne Dairy convenience store to call 911.
According to a sheriff's office news release, Ross told deputies "he was sick of repeated crime in the area" and people parking their vehicles "on his road." Ross allegedly said he "intended to ram the Eclipse, but ended up on top of it."
Ross was charged with two counts of reckless endangerment and two counts of assault. He also was cited for several traffic violations.
Ross was released and issued an appearance ticket for Triangle town court.
No injuries were reported in the incident.
