Is it that time of the year already? Yes, it's back-to-school time.

Colleges are already in session, Pennsylvania schools have begun their 2024-25 year already, and now it's time for elementary, middle, and high school students in New York State to put away those summer clothes and return to class.

As an adult, I don't miss those days. Well, I do miss my friends from those many, many years ago.

With schools set to open up during the week of September 2nd, the Broome County Sheriff's Office has been busy along with several local organizations and businesses to host their first annual Back to School Backpack Giveaway.

The backpack giveaway will occur on Tuesday, September 3, 2024, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. while supplies last, at the Big Dipper BBQ 2 located at 1167 Conklin Road in Conklin.

Members of the Broome County Sheriff’s Office, along with members of the Blue Brothers and Blue Sisters Law Enforcement Motorcycle clubs will be giving out free backpacks filled with school supplies for high school, middle school, and elementary school students in need.

If you would like to help contribute and donate, there is still time to do so. Persons or organizations interested in donating school supplies for families in need can contact Deputy Ed Hlebica and Officer John McLaughlin at 607-778-1168.
