Binghamton Woman, Windsor Man Dead in Apparent Murder-Suicide
Authorities investigating the deaths of a man and woman whose bodies were found in a Windsor residence have said it appeared to be a case of murder-suicide.
Broome County sheriff's deputies were sent to the Village Manor apartment complex at 18 Gary Street in the village of Windsor around 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.
Neighbors said they believed a gun had been fired inside one of the apartments of the 14-unit building.
Deputies were advised that a man who lived there had made statements about "a tragic incident having occurred."
According to a sheriff's office news release, the bodies inside the apartment were identified as 53-year-old Kenneth Johnson of Windsor and 47-year-old Tess Savage of Binghamton.
Investigators have concluded Savage had been strangled to death by Johnson in the apartment Wednesday afternoon. They believe Johnson died several hours later as the result of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
Savage and Johnson had been involved in a two-year personal relationship, which ended recently. Savage had obtained an order of protection from Broome County Family Court on March 27.
Investigators determined there had been a history of several unreported domestic disputes over the course of their relationship.
The Binghamton police department ID and crime scene unit assisted sheriff's office investigators.
