Binghamton Veterans’ Tiny Homes and Resource Center Construction
A new veterans resource center building is rising on the Binghamton site where ten tiny homes will be located.
Construction began a few months ago at the North Side location where the old State Bowling Center once stood.
The $12.2 million residential and resource project is being built at 530 State Street east of the Binghamton Plaza complex.
Project superintendent Bobby Leizear of Upstate Companies, the contractor for the job, said concrete for the basement of main building is expected to be poured next week. Roofing work is planned for late August.
Work on the tiny homes won't begin until the plans for the residential component of the project have been finalized.
Five single-unit tiny homes, along with five double units, will provide housing for veterans. The small houses will be fully furnished with appliances. The residential structures are to be provided by Bill Lake Modular Homes of Montgomery County.
Leizear said the main building should be sealed up before cold weather arrives. Then heating and plumbing work inside the structure can begin.
Broome County officials have said construction for the project is scheduled to be "substantially completed" by early May.
