Troublemakers Target Closed Binghamton Plaza
The Binghamton Plaza has generally been ignored since the last major business at the complex closed three months ago. But some people apparently can't stay away from the place.
The old plaza property has been owned by the city since last March after a long eminent domain process. New York Pizzeria moved from the plaza in July.
Several "No Trespassing" signs have been posted around the 27-acre site on West State Street but they aren't deterring some people from entering the vacant buildings.

Binghamton parks and recreation department workers were sent to the plaza Tuesday after someone smashed glass in a door in what once had been an office building.
Water apparently had been turned on inside the building at some point. A significant amount of water had ponded in an area that most recently had been used by a flea market business. Some of the water also seeped outside the building.

It's not known how many trespassing or other suspicious incidents have been investigated by police since the city took control of the property.
The old Binghamton Plaza buildings are to be demolished next year to clear the way for future redevelopment of the site.
