New Shop Opens at Site of Binghamton's Beloved Old World Deli

Nearly two years after the Old World Deli closed its doors, a new business has opened at the downtown Binghamton location.

The deli at 27 Court Street went out of business in March 2022. The space that had been occupied by the deli now is home to Downtown Discount Beer and Market.

Store manager Nicolette Mattioli told WNBF News the new business opened in late December.

The shop sells beer and soda, along with a few basic food items like milk, bread and eggs.

Store manager Nicolette Mattioli said the business operates seven days a week. It is open until midnight on Fridays and Saturdays.

Mattioli said the store will increase the number of items it offers in the future. She said it's expected to carry some ice cream items during the summer.

The store is owned by Patrick VanPutte of Binghamton.

The Old World Deli had been one of the oldest businesses on Court Street. The deli had been a fixture at the site just east of Boscov's since 1979 - nearly five years before the department store opened.
