As Jared Kraham prepares to start his fourth year as mayor of Binghamton, he's looking toward launching a campaign for a second term.

Kraham, a Republican, won election in 2021 when he defeated Democratic city councilman Joe Burns. He was 29 years old when he announced his first candidacy for Binghamton's top office.

The mayor isn't saying when he'll officially launch his reelection campaign but a formal announcement is expected in January.

Kraham succeeded Richard David as mayor. David could not run for reelection because Binghamton mayors may only serve for two four-year terms. Kraham had been the city's deputy mayor since 2014.

On Friday, Kraham said Binghamton residents shouldn't expect "any surprises" when he announces his intentions on "what I want to be doing from January 1, 2026 and for the four years after that."

Speaking on WNBF Radio's Binghamton Now program, the mayor recalled his first campaign announcement came during the Covid-19 pandemic. He said that event occurred "in an empty atrium at the Doubletree Hotel" because gatherings were not allowed due to the high number of local Covid cases.

There are no announced Democratic candidates for next November's Binghamton mayoral election.
