Binghamton Coffee Guru Leaves Batch, Opening Downtown Espresso Bar
A Binghamton man who had operated his own coffee roasting business for several years has launched a new company and is returning to a familiar downtown spot.
Coe Young owned Laveggio Roasteria, first on Court Street and later on State Street. He joined Batch Coffee in 2022 when that business began operating a café and roasting facility in Chenango Bridge. His LinkedIn profile indicates he was Batch's "chief coffee officer" until August.
Young has just announced plans for a new operation. In an email to past customers, he indicated things didn't go the way he expected over the past couple of years.
In the message, Young wrote: "After 2 years it was evident that this was not what I had hoped, and I left the company."
Young said he's formed a new company with Ben Giordano "because of his passion for coffee" and his business expertise.
The new business is called Otto Coffee Roasters. Young said Emma Dofton, his roasting apprentice, will run the front-of-house operations.
A full espresso bar is to open at the site of Young's old Laveggio Roasteria at 178 State Street "in the next couple of weeks." The place will feature Otto coffee and artisan pastries.
Young said the Otto Coffee Roasters website is open for bean sales. People also will be able to purchase beans at the State Street location.
