Workers Now Sought for Dick’s “House of Sport” at Oakdale Commons
The construction chaos continues as a Broome County development group races to reinvent the Oakdale Mall in Johnson City.
The massive project to develop what will be known as Oakdale Commons began just over a year ago.
The biggest part of the transformation so far has been the development of a 140,000-square-foot "House of Sport" concept store to be operated by Dick's Sporting Goods.
The company has said the Oakdale Commons operation will be the largest of its "House of Sport" stores.
Operations at the Johnson City location are to start this summer. Some observers believe the company hopes to open the store in conjunction with the Dick's Sporting Goods Open which will be held in four months at En-Joie Golf Club in Endicott.
Sarah Cassella, senior manager for corporate communications at Dick's Sporting Goods, on Wednesday indicated the opening date for the new store has yet to be finalized.
The company's website currently lists several management positions that will be available for the House of Sport unit in Johnson City.
Meanwhile, several local and national businesses have been forced to leave the mall as construction work moves forward. Some operations received little advance notice that there current locations would no longer be available.
Oakdale Commons representatives were not available for comment for this story.
