A new eatery has started operating in a Tioga County building that was constructed for use as a Perkins Restaurant and Bakery.

Chef Stanley's is in its "soft opening" phase at the location on Route 434 in Apalachin. The restaurant is just east of Route 17's Exit 66.

The Perkins operation opened in the 4,800-square-foot building next door to a Comfort Inn in July 2017. That restaurant was shut down without explanation in October 2021.

The manager at Chef Stanley's said the restaurant opened last week. She said she expects the grand opening to be held in about a month.

The restaurant initially is featuring a "soft opening" menu with a limited selection of entrees. More items will be offered on a larger regular menu in a few weeks.

Chef Stanley's is open from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. The restaurant remains open until 10 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays.

The business is named in memory of Bob Stanley, who operated a restaurant in St. Louis with a fellow chef after he retired from the U.S. Navy.

According to the restaurant's website, "Chef Stanley’s is more than a restaurant; it is a celebration of friendship, dedication, and the enduring power of a shared dream."
