2 Hurt After High-Speed Police Chase in Chenango Bridge
A stolen sport utility vehicle smashed into a pickup truck and a car as a teenager tried to elude a pursuing sheriff's deputy in Chenango Bridge.
The driver of the car that was struck was seriously injured and the youth who was operating the SUV sustained minor injuries. Both were taken to Wilson Medical Center in Johnson City.
The chase ended with the crash near the intersection of Chenango Bridge Road and Matthews Road around 8:20 a.m. Friday.
The vehicle that was being pursued - a 2017 Kia Sorento - had been reported stolen minutes earlier in the town of Chenango.
Sheriff's deputies and state troopers converged on the scene of the crash, which occurred near the entrance of the Price Chopper supermarket. Sheriff Fred Akshar was at the scene a short time later.
A section of Chenango Bridge Road east of Front Street was closed for nearly three hours for the crash investigation.
Authorities have not released the names of those involved in the crash. They also have not indicated what charges will be filed against the driver of the stolen vehicle.
