Upstate New York Maple Festival Returns With Pancakes and Gooey Fun
The 54th Central New York Maple Festival is happening April 18th and 19th in Marathon, Cortland County, and this is the weekend people from all over New York State look forward to every single year.
Saturday runs from 9 to 5, Sunday from 9 to 4, and it’s the kind of event where you show up for pancakes and end up staying way longer than you planned. Because once you’re there, it just feels good.
Let’s Start With the Pancakes (Because Obviously)
We need to talk about the pancakes first. Served both days starting at 7 a.m., this is the kind of breakfast that just hits different. Real maple syrup, made right here in New York, poured over a stack of pancakes that somehow tastes even better after a long winter. It’s simple, warm, and exactly what you want this time of year.
Maple Everything… And Then Some
If you’ve got a sweet tooth, you’re in trouble in the best way. The festival is packed with homemade maple products, and not the basic stuff you grab at the store. These are unique, locally made-with-care treats you won’t find just anywhere.
You’ll tell yourself you’re just grabbing one thing and then walk out with a bag full of maple everything.
Artisan Vendors, Handmade Goods, and Hidden Gems
Beyond the food, this is a festival built for wandering: no agenda, no rush, just see what you find.
Artisans come in from all over, filling the civic center and school gym with handmade goods, artwork, and pieces that feel personal and one-of-a-kind.
You don’t need a plan. You just walk, browse, stop when something catches your eye, and take your time.
1,000 Volunteers and a Community That Shows Up
One of the best parts about this festival? The people.
It takes around 1,000 volunteers to make it happen, and you never know who you’re going to run into… former mayors, past maple queens, longtime locals who’ve been part of this for years.
If you’ve ever been to a small-town event in Upstate New York, you know the feeling. Friendly, welcoming, and just easy.
There’s History Behind Every Drop of Syrup
This isn’t just about food, it’s about tradition. Maple sugaring in Cortland County dates back to the Iroquois, long before modern technology entered the picture.
And that history is still part of the festival today, especially with “The Maple Sugaring Story,” a presentation that walks you through how this all started… and how it’s evolved over time.
Knowing that history makes every bite taste just a little bit better.
It’s a Full Weekend for Families
If you’ve got kids, there’s plenty to keep them busy too: from the pancake eating contest to live performances to line dancing, there’s always something happening. It’s the kind of event where everyone finds their thing… and nobody’s bored.
Just a quick heads up; pets aren’t allowed unless they’re ADA service animals, so plan accordingly.

Shake Off the Winter… For Real This Time
This is the kind of weekend that feels like a reset. You get outside, eat something warm and sweet, hear music, see people out and about again… and for a little while, life doesn’t feel so heavy anymore.
So if you’ve been waiting for that first real sign of spring in Upstate New York, the Central New York Maple Festival is it.
