Breaking News: Plane Crashes Near Sidney, New York
A small plane reportedly crashed in Delaware County, New York, on Sunday afternoon.
A single-engine plane out of Oneonta, which authorities say had departed from Albert S. Nader Regional Airport, crashed near Sidney around 2 p.m. The FAA confirmed the incident involving the plane.
It is believed that the plane was carrying five passengers. While the status of the passengers remains unconfirmed, the FAA and NTSB are conducting investigations into the incident.
The specifics of the crash, including the cause and details of the aircraft and its occupants, are still under review. Unverified accounts suggest that the plane crashed into Lake Cecil at approximately 2 p.m. on Sunday.
The National Weather Service in Binghamton, about 42 miles east of the vicinity of Trout Creek, New York, issued a request for a spot forecast around 2:30 p.m. for a Delaware County aircraft search.
Priority One Safety Team*, a non-profit volunteer service team, announced on social media that search efforts were underway with several local agencies involved, including Masonville and Trout Creek Fire Companies.
Reports from the Catskill Region Fire/Rescue Incidents Page also indicate that various emergency units, including New York State Forest Rangers, have been dispatched to the scene, with pieces of the aircraft located in different areas, such as Richardson Hill Road and Lake Cecil Road. Efforts to locate the aircraft are ongoing, with debris scattered across the landscape.
Teams continue to document and analyze the debris field for further clues. The investigation is ongoing, with agencies coordinating their efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
*Note that Priority One Safety Team was not on the scene of the plane crash. The organization simply dispatched information it received to the general public.
