New York City Is Now Hiring More AI Workers Than San Francisco

For years, San Francisco has been known as the center of the tech world. But new data shows New York City is pulling ahead in several fast growing areas of artificial intelligence, or AI. The numbers come from Skillenai, a company that tracks tech job openings across the country.

New York Leads in Several AI Skills

They found New York City had more job openings than San Francisco for several important AI skills. New York had 172 job postings for generative AI, compared to 86 in San Francisco. It also had more openings for large language models, prompt engineering, and machine learning.

San Francisco Still Leads in Some Jobs

San Francisco still has more openings for broader jobs like software engineer and AI engineer. But when companies look for workers with specific AI skills, The Big Apple comes out on top.

AI Jobs Continue to Grow

They also found that more companies are looking for workers with experience using large language models, or LLMs. Demand is also growing for AI trainers, and Python remains the most requested programming language for AI jobs.

AI Is Growing in Government Too

The report says New York City is also using more AI in local government. City agencies reported using 86 AI and computer systems, more than the totals reported by New York State and Connecticut.
