If your kitchen started smelling like sugar and butter the second December rolled in, you’re in good company. A look at Google Trends from the baby brand Chicco  identified  every state’s favorite holiday cookie, and New York came in with a very specific pick.

If Santa makes a stop at your place, there’s a good chance he’ll be enjoying Raspberry Thumbprint Cookies. Sweet, jammy, and just fancy enough to feel festive without stressing you out.

How the Cookie Crumbles Across America

Before you picture Santa hopping from state to state nibbling the same cookies over and over, think again. Across the country, families have different cookie loyalties. Italian Wedding Cookies take the crown in eight states, followed closely by Kitchen Sink and classic Chocolate Chip favorites.

Sugar Cookies still have a strong hold in five states, and Snickerdoodles pop up in several others. Peppermint Bark, Peanut Butter Blossoms, and all kinds of creative treats round out the map. Santa is definitely not going hungry.

When Do We Start Baking? Turns Out We Can’t Agree

If you ever feel unsure about when you’re supposed to start your holiday baking, you’re not alone. America is evenly split. Some people fire it up up in early December, others wait until mid month, and a surprising number don’t roll out a single cookie until the week of Christmas. By the way, there’s the nine percent who started in November.

Homemade vs Store Bought… Does Santa Really Care?

73% of families leave homemade cookies for Santa, which is more than double the store bought treats. So if you’ve ever stayed up way too late decorating cookies that look more “Pinterest fail” than picture perfect, know you’re in the majority.

Don’t Forget the Reindeer

It’s not just Santa getting the goodies either. More than half of families leave treats for the reindeer. Carrots, oats, and that magic glittery “reindeer food” kids love to sprinkle across the yard made the list. It’s a cute tradition and a sweet way to keep the kids excited while they’re counting down the minutes until Christmas morning.
