New York City Named America’s Closest Thing to Paris
If scrolling through social media has you dreaming about sipping coffee in Paris or taking a summer trip to Europe, you’re not alone. The whole “Euro summer” trend has exploded online over the past year, with Google searches jumping more than 130%.
But with airfare prices so high, many New Yorkers are looking for a vacation that feels international without the long flight. And according to a new ranking, New York City may be the closest thing America has to Paris.
New York City Ranked As America’s Paris Alternative
SIXT+ ranked the best U.S. destinations that feel like popular European vacation spots. New York City landed at number six and was named the top American “dupe” for Paris. Researchers looked at climate similarities, travel interest, and social media popularity to figure out which American cities give travelers a similar vibe to European destinations. They found that New York City and Paris have a lot in common.
Why NYC Was Compared To Paris
Both cities are known for fashion, culture, food, and famous landmarks. In Paris, people visit the Eiffel Tower and go through neighborhoods filled with cafés. In New York City, visitors go to Central Park, Times Square, and places packed with restaurants, bakeries, museums, and shopping. Both cities are also easy to travel on foot, which adds to that “wander and discover” vacation feeling many.

Whether it’s spending a weekend in New York City pretending you’re in Paris or heading to Montauk for a beach escape that feels like the French coast, there are options closer to home.
