Governor Kathy Hochul says that she has a plan to help people in New York who are struggling because things are getting more expensive. She wants to give money directly to about 8.6 million taxpayers in the state. The plan would give out around $3 billion in total.

Support for Taxpayers

Under Governor Hochul's plan, individual taxpayers who earn up to $150,000 every year will get $300, and couples who earn up to $300,000 a year will get $500. Hochul says that her goal is to help lessen the burden of rising prices and to provide some extra support to hardworking people in New York.

Who Can Get the Money

If you recently filed your taxes and your income is below $150,000 for individuals or $300,000 for couples, you should be eligible to get the refund. This money is for people who filed their taxes on their own, as well as those who are heads of households or married and filed separately.

When Can You Expect the Money

If the plan is approved, the payments could start going out in the fall of 2025. Governor Hochul says that she is determined to help New Yorkers deal with rising prices and make sure that everyone feels the benefit all across the state.

Governor Hochul says that this is part of Governor Hochul's bigger plan to help people manage the higher cost of living by giving them money back.
