New Yorkers are known for being loud, quick, and honest. According to research from Hard Rock Bet, they are also some of the funniest people in America. They ranked New York as the state with the second-best sense of humor in the country. New York had an overall score of 64.2 out of 100.
How the Funniest States Were Chosen
The study looked at four different parts of comedy in each state. They counted comedy shows, comedy venues, and well-known comedians. They also studied Google searches for phrases such as “funny jokes” and “dad jokes.” Each number was adjusted based on population so large and small states could be compared evenly.
New York Has the Most Comedy Shows
New York ranked first in the country for the number of comedy shows available to residents. The state has about 17 comedy shows for every 100,000 people. It also has 1.41 comedy venues for every 100,000 residents. That gives New Yorkers plenty of places to enjoy stand-up comedy and other live performances.
Many Famous Comedians Come From New York
New York also has a long history of producing successful comedians. According to the study, the state has about nine notable comedians for every one million residents. This helped New York get one of the highest overall scores in the country.
New Yorkers Are Searching for Laughs
People across New York are also looking for funny material online. They found about 1,660 comedy-related Google searches for every 100,000 residents. Those searches included requests for funny jokes, dad jokes, and other comedy topics.
One State Finished Ahead of New York
Connecticut took the top spot with a score of 66.1, finishing just ahead of New York. Rhode Island was third, followed by Nevada and Maine. Utah, Nebraska, New Hampshire, Illinois, and Iowa completed the top 10.
